Seraikela Masks

The Seraikela masks were earlier made of bamboo and gourd, until recently the raw material was replaced with papier mache. The masks act as a visual representation of characters and sometimes retain a neutral expression to allow dancers portray various emotions through their body movements. Learn this brilliant art of mask-making at the Seraikela Masks Workshop (Seraikela, Jharkhand) hosted by Ranjit Acharya at Arth – A Culture Fest 2020.

Workshop curated by Neerja Sarin.
